Natural disasters

Which is the country that is best prepared to attend emergencies caused by natural disaster?

Natural disasters are phenomena that cannot control, but it is important that each country has a system to care for people damaged because of some disasters.
However, technological progress made it possible today to mitigate the effects of natural disasters, and prevent having numerous victims.

Many countries are unprepared to deal with natural disasters. But I was reading that Japan is very advanced in its emergency system and how to act after some disaster.

Japan is a country that is very advanced in many areas especially in technology. One of its most important systems is the detector of earthquakes.

In the beginning, the system started with the installation of a sensor network with more than 4,000 seismic sensors all around the country, with the capacity to send information in real-time to the Japan Meteorological Agency.

Thanks to this system the Agency can assess the situation and send the information to the population. And also this advanced technology developed especially for this sensor network, the warning can be sent some seconds before an important or strong earthquake.

This way when the Japan Meteorological Agency receives an important warning from its seismic sensors network, it sends the information to the Network, who is in charge to send the alert signal to the population.

Thanks to this great system the residents of a determined place gets the information about the magnitude of the earthquake, the time of arrival of the waves, evacuations maps and all necessary information to make the reaction of the population the best way possible.

All disasters can cause great psychological damage to people due to factors such as the loss family members or friends, or being forced to live uncomfortably and inconveniently in evacuation centers. The Japan Red Cross works to comfort and relieve the stress of suffering individuals through the provision of psychological care.

In order to be prepared for disasters, the JRCS has formed 500 medical relief teams comprised primarily of doctors and nurses from the 92 Red Cross Hospitals across the nation.

At the time of disaster, response teams and DERU (domestic Emergency Response Units) are dispatched to the affected area and undertake activities such as setting up aid stations, administering medical diagnosis, and providing psychosocial care.

Finally, volunteers of the JRCS receive training on a regular basis and perform a variety of services during an emergency. The operations include gathering information, administering first-aid, preparing hot meals, tracing, transporting and distributing relief supplies, and supporting victims at evacuation centers.

This country is really prepared to attend emergencies.
